uninstalling/installing new mouse
My Microsoft Intellipoint mouse died. I bought a Logitech Optical mouse and was having trouble downloading the software. I assumed it was having difficulty downloading because I didn't uninstall the other mouse. I uninstalled using add/remove programs....it was still there and the properties of the mouse said it was working properly (even though it wasnt even attached to the computer). I then went to device manager..and uninstalled it through there. Both times it said I needed to reboot in order for the settings to take place, which I did. The Microsoft mouse is still there and is not recognizing my new mouse (which actually worked fine when I plugged it in). I only wanted to download the software so I could program the mouse, and now the scroll button doesn't even work. I am considering doing a system restore, but was wondering if there is something else I should do first.
I have a Dimensions 4400 running XP.

Well, as I said, I tried downloading the software, but it kept hanging up on me and never finished. What I finally did was turn off my computer, unattach my Microsoft mouse, and reattach my Logitech mouse again. It works fine, scroll button and all, but it still says in properties that it is a Microsoft Intellimouse.....go figure. As long as I dont have any trouble with it, I'm just going to leave it as it is. Logitech informs me that the software is only for programming the mouse, which I dont really need.....all I need is the left/right and scroll anyway.
Thanks, Sue
