Upgrades
Hi guys & girls
I am planning to put a Gigabyte Mini-ITX GTX 970 OC, an i7 4790, 16GB of DDR3-1600 Kingston HyperX RAM, a WD Blue 1TB hard drive and a Crucial BX100 250GB SSD (to go with the factory Seagate 1TB drive) in my Inspiron 3847. Will all of this work? (I'll be buying an EVGA 600B 600 watt PSU) I dont want to spend almost £700 to find out that nothing works. I have a Pentium G3240 with 4GB of RAM at the moment.

No because the 3847 case does not allow 12 inch video cards to physically fit in. The I7 4790K works fine in the stock Dell motherboard with Stock cooler. The 600B is Too small which means you are choosing based on price rather than on the outputs and judging a power supply as a single 12v unit rather than taking into account ALL of the outputs.
Corsair CS750M is minimum recommended based on power output as well as physical dimensions of the power supply. the power supply must source power on several output rails.
• +3.3 V
• +5 V
• +12 V
• –12 V
• +5 V standby
The first 2 are 142 to 225W on dell power supplies.
The 12v rail needs to be 450W minimum
(The video card is only 1 device)
and the 5VSB needs to be 15 to 20W
150 + 450 + 20 = 620 W
