What CPU can I replace my Core 2 E6600 with?

Thinking of building another desktop again (last one was when there was one CPU and one mother board back in 1983).

So I am thinking of jumping in again.  Retired with lots of time on my hands.

My plan is to buy the fastest compatible CPU that will fit my XPS 410 bouht in Feb, 2007, and use the E6600 for my build.

If I can ever get back on I will check for answers.  Took me several weeks of trying on and off to get back on so I don't know if I will ever make it again due to conplexity of logging on since changed from old way which was so easy.

You could use an E6700 or the Q6600 or Q6700 in the XPS 410, thing is, all of these chips are more expensive than an E8400 that would perform better, run cooler, use less power and overclock higher if you choose to do so on your new build.
