What is the size of the fan on the Dell Inspiron 660?

Okay guys, recently I was lucky enough to order the 2TB/1 GB Dedicated GPU/Core i5 Dell Inspirion 660 desktop here . I am looking to change up the fan to add some lighting inside the system, and after trying to talk to various and various dell representatives and calling several numbers, no one was able to help.

Does any one know the size of the Inspiron 660 fan?? I believe it has to be 80mm or 120mm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's also surprising, I looked at the technical PDF for this desktop, and there was no mention of the specific details on individual components..

I am searching for a case as well. Yeah, 2 USB ports up front, card reader, and audio jacks.

I have gone ahead and canceled my new order for the case fan, because If I end up buying a entire new case, I will have to get new fans accordingly.

Edit: yeah, only 2 DIMM's for ram. But I was confused regarding that. Even if this motherboard isn't that great, I should still be able to go up to 16 gb shouldn't I? 2x8 ram? I mean, I don't really mind with my 8 gb ram currently, but would like the option to upgrade a bit higher.

Actually you have 2 USB 2.0 in the front and the rest USBs at the back I/O panel, which is part of motherboard - basically any case can accommodate your motherboard, it is not going to be walk in the park, but it is not that difficult as well, I keep looking.

Edit. What strange is that you have only 2 RAM slots and my older Inspiron 570 has 4 slots and I can have 16 GB of RAM if I wish and you only 8 GB per Crucial memory finder... What a bummer...

Here is a case I was looking at. Very interested in it. Just trying to figure out if it will be fully compatible with my motherboard.

If you can suggest any other cases, that would be good too. This case simply looks amazing, especially for the price.

Also on the side note, what do you think of my processor/ram? I would personally like to say the processor is powerful enough, and ram is 1600 Mhz, so not too bad, but not entirely sure.

I think I saw somewhere statement regArding problems with generic fans in NZXT cases. Do you need nice looking one or nice working one, or what is most important Beaty or the Beast?

Wow you were able to find it, nice!

Too bad there still isn't the detailed specifications we were looking for, ie- the fan size and what not (guess that will be useless if I am looking for new cases now).

Also I have decided against getting a case which MUST have a sd card reader, because most of these high end cases do not.

Right now I'm having a tough time trying to figure out if my PSU will support all the fans that come with these gaming cases.

This is the PSU I currently have,

www.bestbuy.com/.../2658156.p

Will that be able to support some of the higher end cases with the amount of plugs it has? I don't believe I will have to plug in the fans onto my motherboard or anything.

Also, I saw some gaming cases which had monitoring LCD's on them, and I was trying to do some research on how they functioned, and if they were required to be plugged into the motherboard or something. As you might have already found out, my motherboard is not that great, so not even sure if it would support something like that. I also was reading something like, these monitor LCD's are just sensing the heat with wires across your desktop, without being plugged into the motherboard. I don't know how accurate that is, but sounds strange considering if it detects your desktop is overheating, it should be able to control the fans accordingly. But then again, the fan/sensor would have to be plugged into the motherboard in order to do anything like that.

What do you mean problems with generic fans? It really is up to the PSU though isn't it, since the case really doesn't have much to do with the fans themselves. It comes with a couple of fans, which according to the reviews work fine, or I could order some more to replace them.

Honestly, I won't be the biggest power user, but I would really like a great looking case which can handle everything I am looking for. In this case, I don't really have much to fill up a case like this, or any case for that matter. Also, the price is become a huge factor now as well, since I am spent a decent amount of money already. I would like to keep it under $100 for the cases. Just thought this particular case would be perfect, if, ofcourse, it could handle my Mobo just fine.

I am also still trying to figure out of my current PSU will be sufficient or will I have to get another one.

I was on hurry about the case. What I read about that fan sizes differ a few mm smaller or larger compare to allotter cases, meaning that 120 mm cooler master fan might not get well attached to this case. I seen this with 92 mm fans, actually other way around - I was looking for good 92 mm fan and come across NZXT 92 mm fan with excellent specs and was about to buy it, but I found out that this fan is actually 90 mm NZXT proprietary fan, so is it means that larger cases would have the same situation, I don't know, but we have to check this as well.

I did some research on what you said about the proprietary fans/fan mount, and I found that that the 'phantom' series has the propriatary fan mount on them. The one I am interested in, however, do not.

But so far, I am very very interested in these 3 cases currently, put in order.

Feel free to suggest any other cases, which you might like.

I think frim 3 choices you provided Guardian wins. All of them luck dust protection I think, serious design flaw, also there is no cable management like in Cooler Master, however Cooler Master doesn't look fancy and cool. Also, SSD installation is no good for those cases, there is no special 2.5 SSD bay, so when I read comments people had to improvise. A few problems here and there. I guess you already found out that my choices goes with more practical cases with a lot of fans. My HAF 912 has good cable management (I did not utilized the whole potential of this yet) with motherboard rear panel 1.5 inch away from outside panel, so cables could be hidden in between panels, I also have acceptable dust protection, and SSD mount X2, and finally, I can remove part of my HDD cage to install any size of video card!

Also, keep in mind that most of cheap Dells don't have software fan control, so all fans has to be regulated by voltage, so having all fans already installed leaves you at the mercy of your motherboard fan control, or you would have to discard installed fans and purchase new ones.

Power Supplies (PSU). Use this guide from MSI to assist you with choosing proper wattage, add preferably 50 -100 watt over your graphic card wattage for overhead like multiple fans, aging of PSU and things like this, 50 watt at least.

If you can afford Corsair - Gaming Series 700-Watt ATX, your first  choice, you would not regret, more than enough for years to come. Just be ready to return it if it produces too much noise or something like this, I have GS600 and happy, mine is blue color led.

I totally understand that the guardian case lacks some of those practical features, but in all honesty, I wouldn't even be using most of it. Very little chance that I will get an ssd soon (maybe later, but even then, some improvising can let me get it inside the 3.5 bay and wouldn't be a huge issue.) As for the dust, I plan to clean it out every month or two manually with a air can regardless. I would have gone with the HAF and similar cases, but like you mentioned, they don't look as great in terms of design, which is a total let down for me.

As for the fans, if they do indeed not work properly, I can easily purchase new fans. Where I work, they sell 120 mm LED blue fans, for like $9, but after my employee discount, you are looking at getting it almost free. If if they do work, well, 3 LED blue 120mm fans would  be great, seeing as the case looks amazing with a cheap price tag.

As for the PSU, I ended up exchanging my dynex for the Corsair Gaming Series 700-watt ATX. So that should be more than enough for what I will end up using.

Now like we first talked, you mentioned that my inspiron is a mini tower, does that mean I have to worry about the mobo size to install onto the new case? Or will it be just fine? Also, my 650 Ti shouldn't have trouble fitting into the case right? I know that most of these cases have tons of room; only some special cases out there have made room for the largest GPU's out there. After your response, I will probably go ahead and purchase the guardian case.

Did you get 660 already? There would be some troubles to connect front I/O panel wires from new case to Dell motherboard. It going to be little headache. To ease this process you would have to make some pictures of one motherboard connector and front I/O panel connector. Dell has one connector and you most likely will have multiple single ones....

Unfortunately manual has little help here, look for the pictures on Internet of live motherboard not diagram. As soon as I got to PC I will post somebodyelse motherboard (not 660) with connector in question.

No, I will be receiving the 660 around the 15th. Dell has terrible shipping, but what can you do.

As for the I/O panel, were you able to determine anything by looking at the manual which was provided? It showed the whole motherboard + where the ports were located.

I did see, 2 front face usb slots on the mobo it'self so the cables might not be combined.
