I have been trying a couple of the suggestions here to try and get rid of the screech. First I have reduced my audio volume to 72% instead of 100%. The screech seems to take longer to arrive but it is their. After 9 hours uptime it screeched VERY loud. After 16 hours of uptime I have completely no audio, nada, zlich zip!
Dell & Creative: Are you sure theirs no fault??? I mean a soundcard outputting sound, ludicrous!!

I'm glad to say that since I installed the latest nVidia driver, along with the 2.15 creative driver, I haven't heard a screech at all. Nothing!! Does this mean that it fixed my problem? It seems to have. I have been running almost 24x7 with just a couple of reboots for nearly a week and not a single SOD. If I hear another, I'll be back on to this thread, but for the moment (fingers crossed) all is in harmony with my XPS420. Hope the rest of you guys find a resolution. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that the drivers are just mere coincidence, and that the SOD will recur at some point...you never know..

Thats Great! I havent had one either since I tried that. It looks like we have found the Solution. We now have two Cases (myself and Gabhan) in which the updating of the Creative Drivers to 2.15 and getting the Latest Nvidia drivers from their website seems to do the trick.

If you have updated to the latest drivers for Creative (2.15) and Nvidia, post the results. i.e. If you have or dont have the SoD, and how long you have been running on the new "driver pack". I'm just interested in seeing if me and Gabhan have solved the problem or if we have simply given you people false hope or something."

Just to make sure, Re-download them both from the links provided and install. See if that helps.
Its odd considering that both me and gab aren't having the issue now that we are both on the latest drivers. It seems to good to be a coinsidence.
Thanks.

I'm not sure what to say.
I dont think that this driver update and the screech is a coincidense, as both me and Gabhan have done it and not had a screech (going on a week now)... Like I said earlier your best bet would be to redownload those patches TODAY and reinstall.
