Xps8500 + intel SSD

Hello, So recently I bought the latest xps 8500 with1tb hhd and 8gb ram. I went ahead and bought the intel SSD drive 520 series and 180gb of storage space. My goal is to have the SSD drive as my boot drive.I made a backup recovery discs. I didn't install anything in my computer yet beside the intel SSD drive data migration software so I can move the data to it and swap. I hooked up the SSD drive with a sata III to USB3 cable. Ran the data migration software. Clicked on Start Now--->Automatic---->Next and I get he error " Failed to move the selected data. Make sure your new hard drive is not smaller than your old one and your partition do not contain errors. You can check for the errors and correct them using a special utility" please I need help. And please don't tell me I need a fresh install of windows 8 because I don't own it. Dell did not provide us with any cd's. thank you.

Did you check to see if your particular migration tool will adjust the partition size while transferring the image?  Some do not, so if you have an original partition of 1 TB, you may find that your tool will not transfer the image to anything smaller.

I found this interesting article a while back; perhaps it would help.  How to Migrate Windows 7 to a Solid State Drive.
