Adaptec software, can I get something else?

Question

I bought my cdr drive less than a year ago and it has version 4 directCD and ez cd creator so it is not going to be supported. I would have to purchase the 5.0 for $99 then I could get an update for winXP. Is there any other software I could use that is not so expensive?? WinXP's pre-installed version does very little according to what I have read.

Probably not. Roxio seems to be the industry standard for that sort of application. In any case, their prices are certainly competitive with any similar product, and their support is probably superior.

Well, I think that there is a stripped version of the Roxio CDR software built into WinXP, which could be enough for your needs. Try to take a look to Roxio's web page. Giovanni

I did and it doesn't hardly do anything... Talk about stripped down, it's almost naked.

I reformatted and bought Nero 5.5 for $69.00 plus tax. But, I notice I could have downloaded the newest version 5.5 plus the updates for only $39.00! Good deal for an excellent program. From what I have read Nero and Roxio are incompatible so make sure you install Nero on a clean install that is if your interested. The are listed under ahead.com software.

I recently got a CD-RW drive. It came with NERO and InCD software. I don't have any experience with EZ, or anyone else's software, but if you want to find out about NERO and InCD go here.

I've used nero (www.nero.com) for over a year and I recommend it highly. I've never burnt a coaster with it. It works in Win2000 and WinXP and costs $49 if you download it.

That's a good question. I have been wondering myself. All I know is I have heard no complaints from the beta XP users in regards to Nero. Only about Adaptec and Norton utilities.

I had considered both choices. I had a great deal of trouble making a back up cd. I found out (1) The Intel Application Accelerator is not compatible with Adaptec DirectCd and Norton defrag. (2) Easy CD Creator Platinum's Take Two is incompatible with W2k. In the end I am sure they will all find ways to make their products work but presently speaking that's the scoop.

I also ran a search at DT and found very good reviews on Nero and many almost nasty complaints about Adaptec. The fact that it comes with our systems probably has a lot to do with that. Majority rules.

Nero does appear to be ahead of Adaptec. They already have plug ins for making DVD movies with and or without using a dvd writer. And other such things Adaptec does not have.

Gee, I recently made my first back up cd of all time! And it was a breeze. No formatting, no uneasy questions asked. No deciding if I want the back up cd to work just on this CDRW or on all windows systems. No more throw away cdr's. I had wasted many trying to use DirectCd and Easy Cd Creator 4. Keep in mind that was with W2k and the Accelerator.

After reformatting and without any Nero installed except what comes on my boot up disk to enable my cdrom my back up worked. I am happy camper! Haven't had time to try anything else yet. Good luck with your decisions.
