Broadcom 440x 10/100 install problems. Please help!
I have a Dell Dimension C521 and I tried updating my drivers, but now I can't acces the internet. It sayes it can't find any network cards installed on my computer, and I believe it's this Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller. When I try to install it I get the same thing. It gives me the option to remove broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated contoller and then sayes wizard was interupted before install was complete. In device manager Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller has a yellow exclamation point on it. My internet worked fine before this, and I'm a little upset that the recomended driver installs for my computer from the manufacturer website have done this to my computer. I installed these drivers in this order:
System Utilities:
1) Dell utility v 1.17.1, A09
Chipsets:
2) AMD Driver v 1.3.2, A00
3) nVidia Driver v 4.5.7, A02
Video Adapter:
4)nVidia Driver v 91.48 (32 bit), A00
Network Interphase Card:
5)Broadcom Diagnostics Utillity v10.0.7c, A01
6)Broadcom Driver v4.60, A02
Audio:
7) SIGMATEL Driver v5.10.0.5143, A09
Communications:
8)Conexant Application v1.10, A02
9)Conexant Driver v7.06.00, A02
BIOS:
10) Dell BIOS v1.1.11
Diagnostics:
11)Dell Diagnostics utility v A1298/0438, A1298/0
SATA Drives:
12)nVidia Driver v 6.99, A01

Hi Avais,
Did you just reinstall XP? When you checked that yellow exclamation point, what was the error?

I clicked on troubleshooting and it said to fix the problem, uninstall broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller and then open the install wizard. I tried doing this, but now broadcoms just completley gone, and I'm unsure of where the install wizard is it's talking about. unless it's the driver I saved on my desktop, but it still sayes the same thing. wizard interupted before broadcom 440x 10/100 could be fully installed...and there's still no broadcom. I sure hope I'm not digging myself in a deeper hole.

No. I didn't reinstall my OS. I just wanted to update my drivers. I happen to have alot of programs on my computer so I would like to avoid reinstalling my OS. I was just trying to see if I could get better performance from my machine. It sayes windows cannot load hardware (broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller). The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39). This is quite frustrating.

I fixed the problem. I can't believe it was something so simple. All I had to do was restart my computer and the install wizrd popped up. Then I just had to locate the driver in C:/ dell/ drivers and install it. Beating my self up over this one. Can't believe that was all I had to do. Thank you for your help!

I have the SAME issue... but I can't just reboot & reinstall because it just won't work. I have been trying to get this going for a month & finally quit. I had tried to use it a couple years prior, but it wouldn't work then either, so I just used the DSL access for internet. In the meantime we moved & they ONLY use ethernet. We bought a new ethernet card, but still need the integrated one working. I called Dell tech support & the creep from India wanted $130 to help me!! MY warranty had only been expired by 3 DAYS at that point & I explained to him we had JUST moved & were floor to ceiling w/boxes. He didn't care... my hubby's employer heard all about it, since we bought the computer through their discount program, & they will be reconsidering buying Dell again when they update all of their laptop & desktops. Anyway, any help you can provide would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Thank you!!
