Can't Reset Password: "Local Users and Groups" is missing

I have forgotten my password and I can’t log-on.  I have attempted to reset my password using the "How do I reset a user account password in Microsoft Windows XP?” from the advice section.  However, after proceeding through the list of directions, I reach…click Start, My Computer, and Manage….Then the Computer Management window appears.  When I reach this section, which directs me to click "Local Users and Groups", I see that the choice "Local Users and Groups" is missing from my computer.  I looked on my 2nd computer to compare the two and I do see this as an option there.  However, for some reason, I don't see this option on the computer in which I can't log-on to.   What do I do now?

Bill1819,

The problem you are describing is not a BIOS issue, but a problem with your software. It would most likely be best if you posted your message in the Windows XP board, rather than here.

The instructions seem to apply to xp pro  not for xp home.

IS THIS THE ONLY ACCOUNT ON THE PC?
IF SO CREATE ANOTHER ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT AND SIGN IN.
THIS ACCOUNT WOULD GIVE YOU THE PRIVELAGE TO ACCESS THE ACCOUNT YOU CANNOT SIGN IN TO.
SINC YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN YOUR PASSWORD THE ONLY WAY TO ACCESS THE FOLDERS FOR THAT ACCOUNT WOULD BE TO SIGN IN WITH THE NEW ADMINISTRATORS ACCOUNT.
I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU  CREATE A  PASSWORD RESET DISK.
CLICK START- CONTROL PANEL -USER ACCOUNTS AND ON THE RELATED TASKS MENU ON THE UPPER LEFT OF THE USER ACCOUNTS WINDOW CLICK PREVENT A FORGOTTEN PASSWORD.
THIS WILL START A WIZARD. HOPE THIS HELPS.
