Client configuration utility to configure Wake on LAN
Hi folks
I've got a Dimension 3000 that I'm trying to get to Wake on LAN from shut down/power off. I gather that the BIOS is configured to do this by default. The NIC stays on after shut down, which is a good start, but I'm having trouble getting the machine to respond to the magic packet - nothing happens at all in fact, and the machine doesnt power up. Apparently the BIOS page accessed at boot doesn't include the relevant options for Wake on LAN, so I got hold of the Client Configuration Utility to run in Windows XP Pro, which is meant to expose all the BIOS settings, including the Wake on LAN options. However, when I run the utility in the web browser, the table that is supposed to display the current BIOS settings is empty. Does anybody know if this indicates a limitation of the Dimension 3000, or it I am just going about using the utilty the wrong way?
Any advice gratefully received!

Just to answer my own query, eventually I realised that I needed to run the DCCUtility using Internet Explorer rather than Firefox, in which the utility does not appear to function correctly for the BIOS settings options. To do this, you have to set Internet Explorer to be your default browser until you finish using DCCU.

Do you have a link to or copy of the client config utility you used?
I too have a Dell Dimension 3000, but can't find an old version of the DCCU to use.

I had the same issue that many people have had with the Dimension 3000 not showing the option for WOL (Wake On Lan) in the bios. Here is what I did to get it working:
1. Downloaded DCCU (Dell Client Configuration Utility) http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?releaseid=R200703&deviceid=19801&fileid=278576 and install
2. Install an old version of microsoft.net framework (v 1.1.4322) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=26 and install
3. Run DCCU from the start menu, click the 'Set Values' tab at the top left, scroll down to the bottom and check WakeUpOnLan, and select the option that best fits your needs (onboard nic, wireless nic, add-in nic, or all nics), then click 'Create Package' in the upper right hand corner, save the file wherever you can find it again, and then run it. When you restart your computer, WOL should be enabled!
4. Additionally, I had my computer automatically log in to windows. After installing the earlier version of .net framework, it created another account which prompted me which account to login to on loading into windows. To fix this, I just went and deleted the user account, (I'm reinstalling the higher version of .net after WOL works anyway), and then it lets me log right in.
