FYI : WIRELESS KEYBOARD MULTIMEDIA BUTTONS DONT WORK - FIXED!

I just wanted to post an FYI message.
There are a lot of link in this section as to why the Dell Wireless Keyboard does not work right.
My instance, ALL the keys did fine, but the Hotkeys and Multimedia part of it did not.

After a day of grief, I stared reseaching what makes those work. (since I knew it was in the Computers Windows XP and not the Keyboard. I tested that on another PC).

What I found was, in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Services..
HID Input Device Services was not started.
An attempt to start it caused an error stating it could not start. "Module Not Found".
More research led me to make sure my RPC service was turned on (It was).
And, Look for 3 files: hidserv.dll, mouhid.sys, mouclass.sys.
My hidserv.dll was not in the windows system32 directory. I found it in the Cabs directory, extracted it (hidserv.dll). Started my service, and boom... IT WORKED. I did the snoopy happy dance.

This may help solve a lot of those Wireless keyboard/mouse and other USB HID Devices.
See ya

Hi,

My wireless keyboard multimedia buttons and hotkeys don't work either. I am told that this is because I am using Windows 2000. The driver only works for XP. Is this true? Anybody got a fix for this?
