GX240 Beep Code 1-2-3: DMA page register read/write test in progress or failure

Hi,

I have an Optiplex GX240 here and it won't do much other than power on and beep at me.

The power light is a steady green, and the monitor isn't recieving any signal so the suggested "Run Dell Diagnostics" for "DMA page register read/write test in progress or failure" isn't really an option.

I left it running in this zombie like state while I went away to a meeting and it was still just sitting there doing nothing at all when I came back 3 hours later.

Has anyone else come across a problem like this before?

(OptiPlex GX240 - Beep code: 1-2-3 - No signal to monitor, Num Lock on keyboard working, fans powered on, No HDD activity, steady green power light, all Diagnostic lights on, green)

Regards,

Aidan

Hi There,

I had a simular problem with a different computer, the beep code was  beep, beepbeep, beep the problem ended up being the ram wasnt in correctly or it was the wrong type of ram. Have a look and see.

Nothing in the machine had been changed since I left it, so it wasn't RAM...

I took it apart, unplugged all the data cables to the motherboard inside and took out all the PCI cards etc. then powered it on, then plugged it all back in again. It seemed to flush the motherboard's settings or something, because it went through IDE config. again and now it works fine!

Thanks for your suggestions anyway!

Regards,

Aidan
