Keyboard Driver Error prevents System Standby, then Cursor Disappears
Hi all. I'm not sure if this is 2 seperate issues or just one. Here's the deal. My Dimension 8100 with Windows XP home works great almost all of the time. However, if I leave the PC idle and it starts to run the power saving schemes, things start to get screwy.
I come back to the pc, and the monitor is off (power save.) I move the mouse, and the monitor powers back on. The first thing I see is an error message (box titled System Standby) that says a driver error from the dell enhanced quietkey keyboard with delltouch is preventing the system from entering standby etc...
Then, as I stare at the big "OK" button in the error message box, I move my mouse around with the cursor nowhere to be found. If I keep moving down and left, I can highlight the start button the the invisible cursor. Once I'm oriented, I can usually move the invisible cursor to close down any applicable windows, and eventually reboot the system (which solves the problem until the next time I let the system go into power save mode.)
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? It is utterly annoying, and I'd rather not disable the power save settings on my pc.
Thanks in advance!!

List all the software and/or hardware changes made to the system BEFORE this issue arose. List all the troubleshooting steps you have taken.

Chris,
This problem just started in December. I have not made any changes to hardware, and the only SW changes have been windows updates and updates to McAfee Security Center.
As far as troubleshooting goes, I've tried updating the driver for the delltouch keyboard. That didn't help. I've also tried to run my system restore, but to no avail. That program doesn't seem to be working. I know I've created manual restore points, but I cannot access them. When I select "restore my computer to an earlier date" the window with the calendar appears showing January 2004. I cannot click on any of the bold dates in January. Also, when I click the "<" to go back to December, nothing happens.
