OptiPlex GX620 Desktop Form Display Problem

I have an Optiplex GX620 Desktop FF computer which was donated to our Church for office use. I recently installed 4GB of RAM and a blank 80GB SATA HDD. I have it hooked up to an HDTV with a PC connection.

When I turn on the computer, two things happen:

1) The screen of the TV on the PC channel remains blank.

2) The computer beeps twice and the 1-2-3 lights on the front are solid green.

Could this be an issue with the display/graphics card in the computer and what can I do to resolve this issue?

The Add in video card with LFH connector can have Dual VGA. A dell cable would also have a 1 and a 2 on it to indicate which monitor is 1 vs 2.

Or remove the riser and take out the card. The blue plastic parts are the locking tabs.

Those slots are standard filler that is the same as the original IBM XT from 1981.

A black screen could be anything but for now try out a different video card and see what it does if not then it could be your motherboard, power supply (highly doubt but still an option) or cpu (highly doubt but still an option)

The GX620 has intel Graphics built into the motherboard.

If there is an addon video card take it out and see if it post's without the card.  Disconnect the hard drive and see if it posts with a drive error.  Otherwise the ram is bad.

An other failure has occurred.

This pattern also displays during System Setup and may not indicate a problem.  (If monitor is bad you may not see anything)

  • Ensure that the cables are properly connected to the system board from the hard drive, CD drive, and DVD drive.
  • Check the computer message that appears on your monitor screen.
  • If the problem persists, contact Dell.

I had a look and there doesn't appear to be an add-on video card installed. I will try removing the hard drive and using a computer monitor instead to see what happens. It just may be that the HDTV's PC channel couldn't handle displaying anything. I'll come back and update the status once I've had the chance to try your suggestions.

I disconnected the hard drive cables and tried a different monitor cable. This is the message that is displayed on the HDTV (PC connection):

I'll turn of the computer and reconnect the cables to the hard drive. Since the add-in video card is not needed how do I locate and properly remove it?

There is an Addon Video Card in the PCI-E Slot.

You need to plug the VGA cable into the Addon card and not the onboard video.

Or remove the installed video card.  Remove Any cards from the Slots.

PCI-E video cards have a latch near the board that locks the card in.

Okay, what type of adaptor would I need to connect the VGA cable to the add-on card and which port do I connect it to? I'd rather try that first and if it doesn't work out then I'll remove the card.

I removed the add-on card, much easier than ordering the cable as it won't need a dual-monitor setup. Last question of this topic, where should I look to order a filler piece for the empty slot?
