Really need help
If anyone out there can help with a minor problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
This concerns a problem with a Dimension 8100 system. Upon initial turn on of the computer, it goes directly to the "Safe Startup Mode" screen and "Normal" is selected with other options for startup. With just an "enter" push the computer continues to boot up. I don't beleive that this is normal. Shouldn't the computer boot up all the way to the desktop without selecting a safe or normal startup?
If someone can help I would be very appreciative. Please keep in mind that I am not very computer literate and pretty much need step by step instructions.

There is a line on your MSDOS.SYS that tells the system to start a boot menu before entering Windows.
Open up MSDOS.SYS in a text editor. You can also try using the MS-DOS editor. To use this, go to the MS-DOS Prompt, type in EDIT C:MSDOS.SYS. From there, find a line that says "BootMenu=1". You can delete this line or replace the 1 with a 0. That should work.

Just so no stone is left unturned, are you sure you are powering down your system correctly? You should be using the Windows shutdown to power off your PC.
No offense intended if this information was unnecessary.

I need all the help I can get when it comes to problems with my PC. However, I always use the Windows shutdown button to close out. No offence taken.

Thanks for the help, however:
When I perform the following: START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/MSDOSPROMPT,
and type in EDIT C:MSDOS.SYS, I don't see a line for "BOOT MENU=1". There are other lines that deal with boot up, but not the one you stated. Am I still doing something wrong?
