File Services Solution with Isilon+ECS

We have 30 legacy windows servers. Mostly NTFS based file services over SMB protocol.
What is solution for file services with Isilon and ECS combo in this case. Customer is interested to go to AWS FSX.
We want to get into Isilon/ECS combo. Please suggest the solution and point me to the suitable technical docs.

Or, any other suggestions to keep it on-prem.

Thank You.

Hi,

I just checked it again and it shows :  ECS Appliance Hardware Gen3 EX300.

So, it is ECS Hardware Appliance only.  So, please update on above queries.

Thank You

Thanks. I will have a look in the links, specifically on Cloud/Virtualization link.

We do have Isilon/ECS on-prem. Do we have a specific use-case or solution doc for File Services on these.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello Bhuppi1,

There is not a specific document for that.

Are you requesting to use Isilon and ecs as a unified fileserver?

Isilon can tier data off to ECS and there is a file gateway offering for ECS.

However you really should reach out to your UDS representative for more information. If you don't know who that is. send me a message and I wil lhelp you get in touch with the right people.

Hi Nicola,
Yes, we want to use existing Isilon (and recently commissioned ecs) as a unified fileserver?
Note, ECS here is software version(Not appliance) with EMC provided nodes. Not sure if that makes any difference.
Something high-level thought like this (not exactly)-
- File Data will first go to Isilon.
- Some Isilon policy will move it to ECS as an object.
- ECS will then put data on S3 for older data.
- And this way it will be kind of a Hybrid cloud.
(Goal is to give it some Cloud touch(Hybrid), and keep customer away from going to AWS)

Please share slides for a file gateway offering for ECS.
Thank You

Hi,

Does ECS CIFS Gateway requires an ECS Storage Appliance only.  I guess so, but want to confirm.

Or it can run on ECS software product that is installed on a set of EMC provided qualified commodity servers and disks.

Also, can we use Geo-Drive for the same purpose in this case.

Thank You.

Hi Again

Please reach out to your Dell EMC account team. they can provide this for you.

- File Data will first go to Isilon.
- Some Isilon policy will move it to ECS as an object.
- ECS will then put data on S3 for older data.
- And this way it will be kind of a Hybrid cloud.

This is included in smartpools and cloudpools. Only exception would be community version of Software that does not have this functionality and also lack synciq.

Thanks Nicola.

Also, please advise on ECS-CIFS(formerly) and now Geo-Drive. How reliable it is for File Services on ECS.      Any procs and cons features doc on this.

Thank You.
