Dell Comman|Config Wake On Lan Option
Hello -
I recently downloaded this software to deploy wake on lan on our dell optiplex workstations. (780, 3010, 3020)
The application works great and the configure .exe file works like a charm. There is only one problem.
The computer will only wake up after i go into the bios and exit. I don't change any settings, i just book the computer into bios and exit and then the computer will wake up. Any idea? Reasons why this happens? It happens on all the models.
Any assistants would be greatly appreciated.

It's definitely a common issue. It happens on our 760s, 780s, 790s, 7010s, and 7020s. It's a bug or overlooked issue, would be my guess.
By the way, you don't need to boot the computer back into the BIOS. If you boot the computer at ALL (even without going into the BIOS), the issue will be resolved.
So, this is what we would when we setup a new computer:
1. Run the .EXE file to change the BIOS settings.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Let the computer get just beyond the Dell splash screen (and just before the Windows slash screen), and turn off the computer at this point.

Hello! That solution worked perfect!! The Machine started without any issues. However, if i have 300+ computer all around the US, there is no way for me to follow the restart twice approach.
Any suggestions?

Nope -- because there really isn't a solution. It's a known issue with Dell BIOSes.
We have 3500 desktops, 1000 laptops, and 200 Venue tablets; imagine how we feel.
Your only other option would be to script a restart of the computer twice after running the .EXE, although that may not work if there is a user using the computer at that time.
However, is there any reason you can't just run the .EXE and let the user start the computer on their own? I mean, wake-on-LAN will only not work one time; after the user starts up the computer next time, wake-on-LAN will start working after that. Like I said, they don't need to go into the BIOS to make it work; they only need to start the computer, which (I assume) they will be doing every time they start using the computer.
Is there a reason why you need wake-on-LAN to work immediately after running the .EXE? In other words, is there any reason you can't wait one restart?
