the platform teams would be best to answer that and escalating through your Dell account team would be the best avenue.  I can *guess* that it would have to do with the fact that Precision systems are certified  for specific software (AutoCAD, 3D modelling, Video editing, etc.) which limits the OSes that can be certified for that software.

This has recently put a thorn in my team's side as well. We are in a Microsoft developer program requiring the 8.1 drivers for USB 3.0. I was able to install on a Mobile Precision but none of the T3600's.

Having a problem installing a full 8.1 version on a T3600 . . . .  just fails to install and reverts back to Windows 7 . .  no reason given . .  maybe something to do with partitions ?

I have Windows 8.1 running on a number of T3600's, but I didn't rely on Dell to provide the drivers for anything except the PERC H310 and the Intel Management Engine Interface.  I just used the Windows 8 driver for those...worked without any problems.  For the network and chipset drivers, I went direct to Intel.  For the graphics card(s) I went direct to NVIDIA.  And finally, for the integrated audio I went straight to Realtek.  The system I'm typing this on is a T3600 that's been running Windows 8.1 for over a year.

We use SCCM for deployment so I just imported the drivers and went from there.
