UAC error with 375 BlueTooth Drives on Win 7 x64 (E6420/E6320)

Was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue. I've tried importing the bluetooth drivers into the SCCM driver cache as well as installing the Dell 375 A04 (MUP) driver software as a software package but it all ends in the same issue. When logging on as a normal user, you will get a error prompt saying that GPO has blocked newdev.exe to run. Logging in with an administrative account, you get a UAC prompt asking you to allow a driver to install. If you hit yes, it says the Bluetooth 375 module is installed. However, device manager has the same number of devices before or after if you check.

This has not been an issue with any of the other Dell Bluetooth packages (365 (E4300), 370 (E6400) and 375 (E6410/E4310) ). This appears to be something new with the Dell Bluetooth software for the E6420/E6320. Anyone else have this issue and if so have you found a resolution? Thank you.

Hello. I can confirm exactly the same issue. I am using SCCM 2007 task sequence to stage the machines. Drivers for E6420 and E6320 are in driver package and I am installing additional tools via task sequence software package (DELL Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module 6.3.0.6900). After I first login to the OS I get the error mentioned above. When I press cancel the Bluetooth device driver installation finish and everything seems to be ok. After I restart the machine there is no issue / it is not asking for the credentials again.. Any solution for the issue would be appreciated because we want to go to production with these models. Thank you

Btw the OS is W7 Ent x64.

Just wanted to let you know, I am currently using the A02 package from the E6410/E4310 and it appears to be working fine. I temporary solution until Dell gets this driver issue resolved. On a side note, I'm having a similar issue with the OptiPlex 790 and the Radeon 6350....

I have been successfully using the Bluetooth for EXX20 series for a couple weeks (6.3.0.6900).
I had previously run across something similar so I found it best to download the application installer, package the installer to run silently, and then have that installer program run with administration rights. Once we ran the installer with administrative rights (whether or not someone is logged on) we no longer experienced UAC issues. This works whether in a sequence or standalone advertisement.

Sorry for the delay in this information, I hope it is helpful still.

No problem. Any info is appreciated. I double checked my package and I have it set to run with administrative rights whether or not someone is logged on. This is the command line I am using to install it with:

Setup.exe /s /v"FRESHINSTALL=True FORCE=True"

I believe I also tried Setup.exe /s /v"FRESHINSTALL=True" without success. Would you be willing to put your command line down if it is different?

Thank you.

Just wanted to post another update. I modified the install package to do the following:

Setup.exe /qn /ri

This appears to get rid of the UAC prompt, but I'm only able to login over RDP. However, if I go to device manager and tell it to look for updates, it does trigger a UAC response for installing Bluetooth drivers. So, I'll reimage it again tomorrow and see how it goes. Again, if you have your command line could you please post it?

I've seen the UAC prompt with the current Exx20 driver. Your choices are to revert to an older version or package the driver as a software install.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Warren. Current I have the 365/370/375 drivers all packaged as software installs. For 375, I've got a A02 version and an A04 version packaged. A02 is for the Exx10 and A04 was to be for the Exx20. However, it appears that A02 version is working for the newer models an dnot triggering a UAC prompt on logon so I may just have to go with those for now. I just started running a re-image with the different command line so I'll update when I see how that did. Thanks again.

I am happy to pass along the command line we use: setup.exe /s

After seeing the other notes, I think I need to go back and test with a no priviledge user. I am concerned now that my test accounts might have some priviledge that is allowing this to run without error.
I will get back later today once I have a chance to test this on a fresh build.

Thanks for the update. My reimage resulted in the same issue. UAC prompt logging in as an admin and newdev.exe error when logging in as a normal user. I also realized looking in the packages that the bluetooth software installs fine on older models. Case in point, I'm using the 375 BlueTooth A02 for the E6410/E4310 on my E4300/E6400/M6500/E4310/E6410/E6420/E6320 and appears to work fine. In addition, if you look at the inf files it has support listed for those older devices (365 / 370 etc).

In any case, please let me know what you find.

I'm using the A02 version with the following command line:
"Setup.exe /qb /ri"
This works fine on older models but gives me the UAC prompt on first login for the M4600.
I'm keen to hear if there is a solution to this.

Shane,

Thanks for the info. I don't have a 4600 to test with at the moment, but I'll check the BT drivers when I get my hands on one.

Just had the UAC prompt on first logon for BT reported on an E6310 also (using 375 A02).

Hi guys. Here is a workaround you can use for the stupid UAC issue (tested in task sequence and working). http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/3c90cad7-3729-49b6-8d16-a89fc7830702

Hi Armitage,

I can confirm facing same issue with 6.3.0.6900 A04 Bluetooth driver + Win7 64-bit Ultimate as you do.

Any knowledge when Dell releases new driver version which fixes this issue?
