Upgrade to Windows 7

I am testing windows 7 now through virtual box on vista home premium. I give seminars on How to keep your computer safe and i also show vista and now windows 7 at my seminars. When windows 7 comes out of rc i would like to know if i can upgrade this vostro 1500 laptop running vista home premium sp1 to Windows 7 home premium because i will need it to explain to users at my seminars. I really do not want to go purchase another laptop that will have it on it. that would be a total waste of money.

    Hi Robin,

I upgraded (or rather clean install) six Vostro 1710 to Windows 7 Ultimate RC two weeks ago. No problem so far. Most drivers (if not all) can be downloaded from Windows Update. You can also choose to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium. I would suggest though that you install Vista SP2 first. It has already been released to MSDN/Technet and should be available to all users through Windows Update in June.

Btw, we have 4GB of RAM in our Vostro 1710 but you can manage with far less with Windows 7. I runs pretty smooth even with 1GB of RAM although more RAM is obviously better.

    Good Luck!

i do not want to do a clean install, i would perfer to do an upgrade only because i have software on here that was built in for me to connect my projector or other projectors without having to go into vista to change settings and i do not want to loose that feature., once it comes though windows update in june (sp2) i will put it on. but can you give me the website for vista sp2 now please? I have a vista test computer that i would like to put it on first.
I have 3gigs of ram on the vista premium, I just allocated one gig to the virtual box but i will uninstall the virtual box anyway once i put windows 7 on.
Yep and i agree even with the 1 gig allocated to windows 7 it runs very smoothly
Since Windows 7 is based on the vista platform I figured that there would be no problem upgrading and additional drivers i could get from windows update.

another thing I would like to know from dell if they will be offering an upgrade price for those who do want to upgrade their vista's to windows 7 home premium and pro
for those who have vista now just for the dell computers.

Can someone from dell respond to this question please to confirm?

    thanks

Is that Virtual Machine or third-party software, Robin ?
If it's third-party, where did you get it ?

The Wndows 7 Analyzer said i was fine and being the bleeding edge type of guy, I jumped in and did the upgrade. Had to do a custom upgrade since I was coming from XP. All seems to be working.. Had one blue screen earlier on but nothing since.
