ARCserve off-host backup using EQL snapshots

Does anyone know how to setup off-host backups with ARCserve 16.x and EqualLogic snapshots?

This blog post hints that it should be possible with ARCserve but only posts an example for BackupExec:

ARCserve will actually initiate an EqualLogic snapshot on the fileserver (through VSS) but it will not mount this snapshot on the backup server, but instead it mounts it on the fileserver itself, causing all the backup network traffic to go through the ARCserver agent and LAN.
