Different eql groups on same subnet
Hi
Quick question..
We have a four PS6000 in a storage group in a 192.168.0.0 /24 iscsi network. We have now purchased two PS6100XV and are thinking in maybe create another storage group for the new eql boxes. The reason is to in the future upgrade to 10GBit on the new group.
The question is if we create a new group to put the PS6100VX on, is it required to have a new iscsi LAN with another IP subnet or can we use the same 192.168.0.0/24 subnet as the PS 6000 are on?

Upgrading a EQL from 1GbE to 10GbE isnt possible and make no sense because the 10GbE models costs only 10-15% more.
If you like you can create a 2nd. EQL group within the same network. This is how is works in your datacenter. It makes replication easier if both groups are in the same subnet and no routing is needed.
But i dont understand why you dont put the new EQLs into the existing group. Creating a new pool to place the new boys in is a 10sec job and also if this where 10GbE models this might be more clever than creating a 2nd. group. moving data between pools is possible and easy.
If you have the capacity left you can use the new syncreplica feature for mirroring a few of your most important volumes.

thanks for the answers. If we decide to just put the new babies on the existing eql group for now and later on get the upgrade kit. Is it possible to just create a new group and move the PS6100XV to it?

Moving an EQL out of an Group means to that the data have to be evacuate first otherwise you lost your data. You may have to ask the support if there is a hidden way. Maybe asking how the upgrade procedure from 1 to 10GbE would be can help you in making a decision here because it can be possible thats there are some requirements for that task.
In my price book i only can see SKUs for standalone/single controller and not something like an UpgradeKit which doenst mean that they not exists. The list is huge and for a arm and a leg together with your unborn child you can buy everything :)
As long as you dont plan to replicate i would stay with a single EQL Group. If separation is needed you can setup up to 4 pools for this job.

is it a limitation to have max 4 pools per eql group?
