electrical circuit problems with 6510 and 6010 controllers
Hi,
i think everybody with 6510 and 6010 controllers is aware of a nasty electrical circuit problem which can cause
a) multiple disks or one disk will suddenly go dark - only a hard failover can cure it
b) a controller suddenly goes dark (sometimes a failover occurs)
c) a newly replaced hdd will not come online saying spin up time was too long
Now: Since yesterday i can confirm (together with the ireland eql supporters) this problem still affects the A05 revision.
I was told months ago some capacitor was soldered to the controllers which should cure this problem. My question is now: DO the A05 already have this capacitor included? And if YES, what are you planning to do about this?
Based on my experience especially the last year i´d say you WON´T cure this with firmware workarounds. The specialists in ireland told me yesterday after a new case that also FW 5.2.2 won´t fix this.
And based on my all experience i´d say you can´t REALLY fix hardware related issues with FW updates.
Now: IS the A05 the latest revision?
What´s DELL gonna do about this problem in the future? Is there a recall planned?
And to add this: Strangely enough i personally have to admit statistically (we have about 10 6510 arrays) the A01 revision was the most robust. Now what do you think about THAT ;) ?
Best regards,
Joerg

Hi,
some intel would be highly appreciated. I know this is a difficult subject but it is an important one.

I'd suggest to open a case with Equallogic support on this, as that's more likely to get you an answer.

You could at least answer me the actual revision of the controllers. is it A05 or is there a later one already in the wild?

I know that ;) - But maybe one of the DELL wizards can answer this? Don? Joe?

This is a user-to-user forum. I don't work for Equallogic support, so I don't know.
