Redundant controller networking

This is a question about EqualLogic storage devices with redundant controllers.

Should the ethernet interfaces on the secondary controller have the same IP addresses as the interfaces on the active controller?  If they should have different addresses, why, since only one controller is active at a time?

Is there any way to configure the ethernet interfaces on the inactive controller without restarting the member?
