VMware SRM Integration with ASM/VE and ASM/ME
Hello,
I currently set up a fully functional SRM 5.0 solution for my customer, 5 x ESXi 5.0 hosts at Protected and DR sitesalong with a couple of PS6100XV arrays.
Currently all VM's use VMDK files for storage, which works perfect with VMware SRM, as everything fails over and fails back in a fully automated manner. I am aware that a 'cleaner' application snapshot for apps such as SQL is acheivable using ASM/ME and guest attached iSCSI disks, but I am struggling to see how this can be integrated into an SRM Recovery Plan.
My customer will not accept having to go to each VM, update iSCSI target addresses etc and start attaching disks, as the whole idea of SRM is that it makes DR failovers as painless and stress free as possible.
As I see it, it is a trade off between ease of use (automation) with the small possibility of corruption (Snapshot taken using ASM/VE) or data consistency and manually peicing things together in a DR...
Has anyone out there succesfully managed to integrate the two into an automated Recovery Plan?
Thanks in advance

I love my guest attached volumes that are protected with ASM/ME. But I'd say in your case, since you have a functioning SRM arrangment, stick with what you have.
