MD3620i Missing Raid Controller Error

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone could possibly lend some insight to an issue we're facing. One of our MD3620i raid controller modules (Slot 0) failed a self diagnostic test and placed itself offline and the array failed over to the other controller. After logging into MDSM the Recovery Guru was showing:

Offline RAID Controller Module, and Virtual Disk Not On Preferred Path

We removed the RAID Controller Module and reinstalled it, now the Recovery Guru was giving us the following:

RAID Controller Module Removed, Expansion Enclosure-Loss of Path Consistency, Virtual Disk Not On Preferred Path, Removed Battery Module.

The Controller Fault and Battery Fault LED's were lit amber on the back of the failed controller and the MDSM hardware tab was showing the slot 0 controller as removed. We figured maybe the controller battery finally gave out, so we ordered a brand new genuine Dell replacement battery and installed it into the faulty controller. After plugging the controller back in nothing has changed in the Recovery Guru screen, the Hardware tab still the shows the controller removed, and the controller still has the Fault and Battery Led's lit. Any ideas? We'd call Dell but we're way past warranty, is there a way to reset the controller fault using the CLI? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello tgedgau,

Do you have the serial cable that came with your MD3620i? If you do then what I would do is to connect it to your controller0 & see if the controller is booting to the Start of the Day message. To see if the controller is booting, startup a terminal emulation program like PuTTY, Tera Term, Minicom, or HyperTerminal using terminal settings 115200-8-n-1. Other than that the only way to see what is going on with the controller is to look at a support Log from your MD3620i to see what errors are listed.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
