how about cloning solutions like Acronis ? I know they load qlogic/emulex HBAs in the bootable CD so you can see SAN attached devices. I have not personally tried it but it would be an interesting exercise.
We have tried Acronis on a test server, but was no good. The host could not come up on either netapp or emc lun after reboot, the OS got crashed But we have not used a bootbale CD during this process, I think we just cloned the boot image to a new EMC LUN and then pointed the UCS profile to the new boot LUN and rebooted the host.
