Computer says "no boot device available"
Inspiron 660
Hello, I just recently got this computer from my cousin and I plugged it in today and put an SD card in it. Whenever i turn it on, it says " no boot device available" under that it also says: "Sata0: none Sata1: installed Sata2: none Sata3: none" I have been trying to resolve this issue for the past hour and just cant seem to figure it out.
If anyone has any information they could give me, that would be greatly appreciated.

Just curious. Usually the boot drive is SATA 0 so the question is, was there a boot drive in the system that was removed prior to you getting the system? If so then possibly the only drive in the system does not have Windows installed on the drive. You can also check the boot menu in the BIOS, F2 at boot, to make sure that Windows Boot Manager is first in the list. Also move the SATA data cable to the SATA 0 port.
If you need Windows installed on the drive then go to the MS page here and download the media creation tool. That tool will create a bootable Windows 10 installation flash drive. This YouTube video is a great tutorial describing a clean install of Windows 10.

Hi JOcean, yes the sata cable is plugged into the right area, i went to the bios setup and reset the settings to default and now there is a sata0. The boot message is still coming up, so do you by chance have any other advice?

On some early Dell desktop models, there is a mSATA drive (miniCard) being used as cache to speed up hard drive. If your C drive (OS hard drive) was setup using one and the cache being broken (disconnected), you would get that no boot device error as well.
To verify, open the case and look at a miniCard slot located next to 4 SATA ports. If there is an mSATA drive present, that could be the cause. You can remove the mSATA and replace your spinning hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD. Since you just get the computer from someone else, perform a clean install of Windows 10 as advised by @JOcean so you can get a fresh start on this system. Not only you will get a working computer again, it will perform a lot better with an SSD drive.
