Delete user account

What is the exact model number of the system? And was everything erased using format and have you tried to do a clean install? This MS forum thread may help. I am a bit confused though. Was this a used system purchased from another user? Is the activation key tied to another user's MS account?

You could just completely wipe the boot drive and do a clean install of either Win 10 or Win 11, using  Microsoft's Media Creation Tool.

You still didn't tell us the exact PC model.

You have to create a bootable USB stick using the Media Creation Tool on some other PC, and then boot this PC with that stick.

Assuming there's a Service Tag somewhere on the PC, put that number in at Dell's Support site and it will identify it for you. (Don't post the Service Tag here.)

If this PC runs Vista, it's really old, and not going to run Win 10 or Win 11. So why even bother with it?

Unless you have a Dell Vista installation disc, you won't be able to do a clean install because there's no legal/safe way to download Vista from the internet. And even if you install it with a Dell disc, it will be so far out-of-date and full of so many bugs and security holes that you won't ever want to go on the internet with this PC...

In addition to the advice offered by @RoHe , I have a question as well. To do a clean install you do not have to sign in. The installation would occur right after you boot the system. So my question is are you trying to sign in on Windows or is the computer requiring you to sign in immediately after you boot the system and before Windows is loaded and running?
