Dell Update Hangs UP

I just tried to run Dell Update on my Inspiron 5477 AIO. It said there was one recommended for the BIOS. I started it and it just sat there for over 3 hours showing the blue bar progressing but it never completing the update. Is this a problem with the Dell Update service?

Always better to do BIOS updates manually, eg download the .exe from the support page yourself, and then double-click to launch it. Be sure to read/follow the instructions carefully to run the update, and disable your anti-malware suite before launching it.

Thank you.

I think you are right about the manual update  Problem is I have no idea how to go about finding the update.  Would you please direct me to it?

BIOS 1.2.5

Keep in mind that updating BIOS usually isn't necessary unless it fixes a problem you're actually having, or not updating poses a serious security issue.

There's always a risk a BIOS update will brick the motherboard. Unless the PC is under warranty, Dell won't replace the board if you updated BIOS on your own without direct instructions from a Dell Tech Support agent.

Updating BIOS when the SupportAssist app prompts you is not considered to be instructions from a Dell Tech Support agent.

Some other driver updates were released for this model in Dec'18/Jan-Feb'19, so do those even if you decide not to do the BIOS update. Make sure you only install new drivers for the hardware you actually have installed.
