E2318HR, need help connecting two computers
I used the HDMI exit from the monitor, switched it with a female-female HDMI and connected it to a HDMI-two HDMI splitter, then connected two HDMI cables into the splitter and hooked it up to the two computers. Result is that I cannot use both cables/computers at the same time, the monitor is turning itself off and says it is not detecting an HDMI signal. Only when I take out one cable from the splitter it connects to the computer where the cable is connected to. Which defeats the purpose of being able to switch seamlessly between two computers on one monitor, without having to constantly unplug one cable and then plug in the other one. What is the solution, please?

You don't want a splitter.
You need a HDMI switch. Something similar to https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=8150
It is basically a box with 2 or more HDMI inputs to 1 HDMI output. Some will automatically detect which of the inputs has the active signal and route it to the output. Others have buttons to let you select.
What you really want is a KVM keyboard-monitor-mouse switch which lets you share the same keyboard, monitor, mouse between two PCs. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=36650
