how to install old HP photosmart printer driver in Windows 10

usually these old printer do not have Windows 10 driver, or HP support site is horrible. No one seems to know how to do it right.

but there is actually a solution.  you do not need the original HP driver CD/DVD.

Windows 10 would detect these old printers and even know their model number but would say no driver found.

go to Settings>Device>Add printer

choose the printer that I want isn't listed

choose add a local printer w manual settings  

choose use an existing port and USB001  

Click Windows Update and wait patiently for 10-15 min

when Windows update comes up w a long list of printer makers, choose HP or Hewlett Packard, find the closest match to your printer (does not have to be exact match).  for example, for photosmart 7350, available options are 7960, which worked.  there you go.  you can continue to use these old printers on Windows 10.  Of course HP prefers you buy their new printers.
