Inspiron 3880

I just bought an Inspiron 3880 and it did not come with an optical drive, which is fine.  I was wondering if there is a specific model of ODD that I need to buy or will any 9.5mm optical drive work?  I know it will fit but will the ODD bezel on the case fit any 9.5mm internal ODD?  And are there instructions on how to remove the bezel from the front face of the case?  It looks really nice so I don't want to break anything.

The Inspiron 3880 Service Manual has instructions to install an optical drive but I suspect your front bezel may not have a removable insert where the optical drive would installed.

Either way, a simple solution would be to buy a USB2 or USB3 CD/DVD read/write drive and not have to open the case. Lots of choices available, but make sure whichever one you choose is compatible with Win 10.

Here's one recent review including things to consider when buying an external optical drive, but check other sites and reviews for different opinions...

My son and I tried this very thing. The front plastic slot does have a cut out that comes out of the case. We tried to put the cd drive out of an optiplex 3020 desktop in the 3880 but it would fit the case as the case was slightly thinner than the other cd drive chassis .

I had the same problem. My old low-profile DVDRW didn't fit into my Inspiron 3880.
I called Dell and ordered one that fit. It arrived today; the sticker on the new DVDRW says Model: DU-8A5LH
I hope this helps!
