Inspiron 3891, Event Viewer error - Usbupdate.exe fails

Hello,  I completed a fresh restore/install of Windows 11 and keep seeing this error in the event viewer. Internet research suggests the UsBUpdate.exe originates from Dell. I have no new updates available in Windows update or Dell Update.  Any advice?

All appears to be fine here, and as reported by many others.  If you are still having the issue, suggest you completely uninstall all Dell software, reboot, and reinstall Dell software.

In addition, your explanation does not explain exact failure on all Windows 10 OS's, too.  They are all ok now, also.

It appears the USBUdate.exe errors began after Windows Update  2022-05 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 11 for x64 (KB5013889) and /or  2022-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5014019) on or around May 27th. A software conflict of some sort. Dell Update and SupportAssist worked until these Window Updates were installed. I am not surprised the Dell Update and SupportAssist code was found to be fine.

Hopefully, on upcoming "Patch Tuesday" this will be resolved.

Chris,

Thank you for the updated information. Any idea when the OTA update will be distributed?

First line of Chris's post says:

There will be no notification of any sort.

That would seem to indicate it will just roll out like any other update, without any prior notice.

Im told there was a security breach involved in this... I wish Dell was more transparent about what actually happened, other than just saying "its getting fixed, look the other way"

Could you share your source with us?  I, and maybe others, would like  to know more.  Thanks.

Hello everyone!  This was quite a thread. Checking to ensure its ok to reinstall the latest versions of Dell Support?  Is it working for you?
