Inspiron 5680, replacing cpu steps?

What are the steps that I would need to take to upgrade my cpu? Can I just buy a new cpu or would I need to replace the motherboard? Can I even replace the motherboard? Do I just need to buy a new case and start from there? I'm not planning on buying a new cpu soon. Maybe in a year. However, I don't know what steps I need to take or what cpu, motherboard, or case I should get(if required). I've been looking online for upgrading cpus and motherboards but their all old dell models and I'm not sure if it would work on my 5680. Help would be appreciated.

@EVILMAN57

The i7-8700 would be the easiest. "No extra cooling required"

Just remove the i5-8400 install the i7-8700 add some good thermal paste and your done.

The i7-8700K would be the best but would require extra cooling to prevent over heating.

Remove the i5-8400 install the i7-8700K apply thermal paste new heat-sink, fan or liquid cooling system.

Sorry but they did not ask if they should upgrade the CPU but how.

In a year or so if they feel the need to upgrade the CPU they will know how.

Some people do upgrade a CPU just for overall performance and not for just one program or game.

Just like I upgraded my ZBook's CPU and memory.

Not for any particular program or game just for overall performance.

why would you change the CPU?

name one thing (some application program or game) you do now that would work better,  (this is first not how)

Skyrim Vr. Even completely umodded, the cpu goes up to 100% while the the gpu normally stays around 60%. If you know any ways that I could boost my performance that could help. Thank you.

@EVILMAN57

First thing is to do a “Disk Cleanup”

Disk Cleanup#1.PNG

Check everything except “Delivery Optimization Files”

Click on “OK” then “Delete Files”

Next do a “Disk Defragmentation and Optimize”

Defrag#2.PNG

Click on “Optimize”

If an SSD is installed you do not need to run “Defrag”

Next go to “Advanced System Settings”

Performance settings#3.PNG

In the “Performance” box click on “Settings”

Best Performance#4.PNG

Click on “Adjust for Best Performance”

Then click on “Apply”

Next click on the “Advanced” tab.

PerOP#5.PNG

Make sure “Programs” is selected in the “Processor Scheduling” box.

In the “Virtual Memory” box click on “Change”

Vmem#6.JPG

Click on “Custom Size”

Set “Initial Size (MB)” larger than the “Recommended:” size.

Then set the “Maximum Size (MB)” larger than the “Initial Size (MB)”

Click on “SET” and then “OK”

REBOOT:

@Lau666

Updating the BIOS from Windows:

Note 1: Before updating the BIOS, ensure that you suspend BitLocker encryption on a BitLocker-enabled system.

If BitLocker is not enabled on your system, you can ignore this step.

Note 2: Do not turn off the power or interrupt the BIOS update process during the update.

Download and Installation:

1. Click Download File, to download the file.

2. Click Save to save the file to your hard drive. "DeskTop"

3. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file.

The system restarts automatically and updates the BIOS at the system startup screen.

After the BIOS update is complete, system restarts again.
