Inspiron 660s - Chipset Intel Management Engine Interface driver update failed
I attempted to upgrade my RAM to 8GB by adding a 4GB memory stick from Crucial but it failed. According to their support, it was likely that my chipset driver software wasn't up-to-date and this was the problem.
So I found the "Dell Support for Inspiron 660s" page, typed in my Service Tag, and used the Support Assist analyzer to check the currency of my drivers. It found that the chipset driver (among others) was out-of-date, so I used the automatic feature to update it.
After the update and restart, I ran the Support Assist analyzer again and it found that the chipset driver still needed updating. So I then did a manual download from the Dell website of the update software and ran it, successfully according to the completion message. After restart I repeated the analyzer process and got the same result, namely that the chipset driver still needed updating. I then repeated it yet again with the same result.
I then tried a different approach. I opened Windows Device Manager and found the driver properties, which showed that the version was 9.5.14.1724. I clicked on Update Driver and went through the process to update it to version 11.0.0.1157. My RAM upgrade still didn't work even with this version.
I ran the Support Assist analyzer again and it again reported that the chipset driver still needed updating.
Help, please!

The version listed on the Dell site is for Win 7 and Win 8. If you have Win 10 it does not, apparently, apply.
If you updated using the Device Manager and it now shows the latest version, I would ignore the Dell Support Assistant, for this driver.
However, there is also the Intel motherboard Chipset Driver. That too could pose problems, although the potential memory incompatibilities noted below probably would not be affected by the chipset driver.
Generally, mixing memory - including different brands - can result in memory incompatibilities and failure to boot. Its best to only use the same brand in pairs. This applies to any PC, not just a Dell.
