Windows 11: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR2.

Hello everyone,

I notice an error throughout the day in the event viewer that says "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR2."

I don't think I have experienced any issues from this but just wanted to know if there is a way to fix this.

Thanks in advance!

Exact model number?

Always include the model number on any initial problem post. Helps people trying to help you.

@fireberd is spot on, the model number is needed for proper diagnosis. Also list the drives you have installed and from that error I am assuming you have 2 drives setup for RAID. Briefly you appear to have a problem on disk 2. Run diagnostics (tap F12 immediately at boot) and watch for any drive errors.

And please also tell us exactly how many drives, and of what types (HDDs, SSDs) are installed and/or connected to this PC.

I sometimes get that same error message for an external USB HDD. My external Seagate HDD automatically goes to sleep (stops spinning) after a period of inactivity. So if the drive is asleep when Windows tries to read/write to that drive, the HDD has to awaken and spin up to full speed first. That tiny extra bit of time before it's fully on line can throw the error message.

Read this and/or this to see how to identify "Device\Harddisk2\DR2" on your PC, which should help with your troubleshooting.
