working on computer ad it refreshes the screen
I am getting really tired of this computer. My old computer (Dell Inspirion 660) did the same thing and so I went and purchased new Dell Inspirion 3471. I can have a couple folders open working in them and the next thing I know windows like refreshes but closes my folders out. I don't know why its doing this but it gets pretty darn aggravating. Can someone please tell me what to do so I can fix it before I throw it out the door. It does not shut down completely and its not restarting. The only way I can describe it is it Refreshes.
Windows 10 Home
Version 20H2
Os build 19042.867
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-9100 CPU @ 3.60GHz
Installed Ram 12.0GB (11.8GB usable)
64 bit operating system

And another thing... Open Windows Event Viewer and look for any error(s) around the time the folders close. It's possible something is crashing (eg, video card driver) and it recovers automatically, but the folders have been closed.

Odd that two different computers are doing the same thing. What app(s) are you using when this happens?
Have you scanned thoroughly for malware? Malwarebytes (free version) is a good tool to use.
Search for File Explorer Options in Win 10 and click the button to Restore Defaults. See if that helps.
Is something set to run in the background that's causing these folders to close? Try booting in Safe Mode and work for a while and see if the folders still close or not. Note: Windows features will be limited in Safe Mode, so some settings and commands, etc may not work. So just leave some folders open and see if they close...
And read this too.

Just one thought, when you say the folder refreshes are you referring to data stored on the computer; or data from an external storage device like a camera or USB flash drive and it refreshes in the middle of transferring the data to the PC?
If the latter, and you are experiencing this issue with two PC's, I'd look to the external equipment like for example the sleep/timeout settings on the camera, and/or check the health and connection on its flash media.

That sounds like malware or the default windows 20 min timeout.
Change power plan to High performance and set sleep to never turn screen off after 480 minutes.

it does not matter if I am working from the external hd or if I am working off the actual computer.
