AC Adapter Status Unknown

Respected Sir/Ma'am,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537. I was using my laptop and after my laptop got discharged I had plugged it into the respective AC adapter and tried charging the laptop. While charging the laptop I was also simultaneously using it also, and suddenly it started showing me a battery alert (the battery notification light start blinking red). This usually happens when the laptop is low on charge, but I noticed that over the system, the laptop's battery percentage was100%, but still the alret light was continuously blinking.

I tried restarting the laptop and reconnecting the battery also, but now my laptop isn't able to starup over its battery backup. Now, I have to plug it to the AC adapter in order to on my laptop and the alert light keep on blinking continuously.

I have also checked the bios menu and it's showing the AC adapter status as unknown there.

I would request you to please look into this problem and help me fixing it as soon as possible because this laptop is being used for official purposes only so this is an urgent requirement to get it fixed as soon as possible!

This is an 8-year old system, but in general:

Replace the adapter with an OEM Dell unit first:

If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:

And if that fails to get the adapter recognized, replace the system board (or the system, given its age).

So I tried all of these things and none worked. Guess what solved the problem for me!! I used a lens wipe and swabbed the tip of the brand new dell charger I bought and also the port where the charger goes into. So what happened was that it pushed the port out of place. I used a screw driver to unscrew the bottom of the laptop, popped it open and looked for the charging port, put it back into it's place, pluggled in the charger to see if cleaning it worked, and it did. The light stayed on and my laptop is able to charge now!!! I put the screws back on and voila!! It works now. So if you do try to clean the port area be gentle. If it pops out of place, you can try to do the steps to place it back in there. It's super easy. I have no computer knowledge, just common sense. Try rhat and let us know if it worked. Not sure about wasting money trying to replace parts. Try cleaning it first
