Battery does not charge

Hello, I have an Inspiron 15 7559. For 3 months now, my laptop says "[battery percentage], plugged in." There is no text on whether it is charging (which it is not). (Once upon a time, it occasionally said "plugged in, not charging, but that was an easy fix.) These are the things I have done to remedy the issue:

  • Restore
  • Completely reinstall Windows 10, wiping entire hard drive and all settings
  • Replace charger
  • Replace battery
  • Update BIOS and drivers
  • Played around settings in Settings and Control Panel

Whenever it stopped charging, there were not settings I was playing around with, nor do I recall any impact or damage to the device. It just decided to stop. If I unplug, it still works off of battery, but it does not recharge. Are there any settings that I could change that could get this working? Thank you for your time.

Check in UEFI setup:  is the AC adapter listed along with its power rating, or showing "unknown"?

If it's unknown, the battery won't charge (don't skip this check:  the system WILL power up but the battery WILL NOT charge with an unknown adapter).

Since you've already replaced the adapter, the next suspect is the DC jack;  replace it:

If that doesn't get the adapter recognized, the mainboard charge circuit is bad;  replace the system board.

You may drain the residual power of your computer and re-calibrate the battery by following the steps below:

  1. Power off your computer.
  2. Remove all the external peripherals (printers, scanners or any other USB device) connected to your computer.
  3. Please remove the AC adapter and battery of your computer.
  4. Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain the residual power.
  5. Release the power button
  6. Keep the battery out for at least 2 - 3 hours.
  7. Then insert the battery and charge it overnight with the system powered off.
  8. Then power on the computer and see if it works.
