BIOS Update Error - Inspiron 5580 running Linux
Hi,
I converted my machine soon after purchase to Linux only, having initially applied a BIOS update in Windows to 2.4.0. Today I thought I'd have a look for any updates as the machine is not on the list as supported via fwupdmgr and indeed latest BIOS is now 2.13.0 with numerous point releases in between.
So downloaded the 2.13.0 exe, checked the MD5 etc, moved it to a FAT32 USB stick, rebooted and entered the BIOS via F12, chose upgrade firmware, navigated to the file, all look good, hit proceed and after a few seconds I get a screen saying firmware update failed at 0% and the system will reboot. Reboots fine and I can carry on with my day.
Possibly relevant is the NMVE SSD supplied with the machine is supported by fwupdmgr and has received updates.
So any ideas what the issue could be, any mileage in downloading older BIOS updates and trying to step up in stages?

So I have tried earlier BIOS updates starting with 2.5.0 - same result.
Have tried a different USB port - same result.
Current question - safe to try the method for legacy Dells (FreeDOS bootable USB) with this 2019 model?
