Bios update - Intel TbT Retimer and Retimer 2 update fails
The recent BIOS and firmware update for my Inspiron 7400 (Inspiron_7300_Inspiron_7400_Inspiron_5301_Vostro_5301_1.7.0.exe) updated the bios and most firmware successully - except for the Intel TbT Retimer and Retimer 2 firmware, which failed as can be seen in the following image.
Re-running the update always results in failure of the Intel TbT Retimer and Retimer 2 firmware.
Perhaps related to this update failure, my Inspiron 7400 has never been able to connect to a second screen via hdmi using the usb-c port, even when using a dell usb-c to hdmi adapter and a dell screen.

I had the same issue with just the TbT Retimer 2 in a Dell XPS. Each Thunderbolt (USB-C) port has a Retimer to boost signals. If anything other than a power adapter is plugged in to one of these ports, it prevents the updating of the Retimer firmware. A docking station will also prevent the updating. I had an external screen plugged in which also delivered power, so I removed it and used a power adapter, then I had no more problems.

Seems that the problem is triggered by the additional monitor adapters connected to USB-C ports. Plugged network adapters don't have the same negative impact - Retimer firmware updates successfully
