Brightness keys no longer working
I just recently got this laptop for school, it is an Inspiron 15 and when I first started using it the F11 and F12 keys worked just fine. In the past week I have noticed they no longer do anything when I try to adjust my brightness, however my Fn key still works for volume or anything else. Anyone know what this could be? I haven't done any updates or anything on my laptop since before this started happening.

Hi emaleekate,
Thanks for posting. Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.
Unfortunately your post doesn't indicate which model Inspiron 15 you have, so we can only give a general answer to your questions.
Have you tried?: Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings (for your active plan) > Change advanced settings > Display > Enable adaptive brightness. Make sure that's set to Off.
If so, then run a systems diagnostics by pressing F12 or using Dell Support Assist. Make a note of any error messages encountered and post back. If no errors are encountered, try going to the BIOS and seeing if you can adjust the brightness there. That would at least suggest whether this is a hardware or OS/driver issue.
If you need additional assistance, please contact me privately. Be sure to include your personal information and your computer's service tag number. Thanks.

The F1-12 keys toggle between Media and Normal depending on whether or not the FN is used with the F keys. Try pressing brightness key with and without the FN key to see which one works. The default can be switched to the way you want it. See your manual for instructions.

Maybe this will help some:
Change the monitor's driver to GENERIC PNP MONITOR
I had mine with some other driver.. can't recall, but it worked for me!
Stopped working after some windows update, or going from windows 8 to windows 10. I can't remember how long I had this issue.

Oh my gosh, thank you! This just fixed my problem. I'm used to Apple products, so this Dell is new to me. Pushing the FN key turned my volume up/down. Very helpful!
