Caps lock light always on

Today I splashed some iced tea on my keyboard and then furiously wiped it away with a napkin, pressing down on lots of keys at once. Now, it my caps lock light is always on, though I can turn the function on and off like normal.

I suspect I pressed some combination that caused this. Any ideas how to turn it off when caps lock is off?

Please try the following steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect power adapter from your computer and all other peripherals
  2. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
  3. Turn on your computer and check if the caps lock key is now working.

 Change your Keyboard Settings:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click Time & Language.
  3. Click Language on the left pane.
  4. Scroll down and click Spelling, typing & Keyboard Settings Advanced keyboard settings.
  5. Scroll down again and click Advanced keyboard settings.
  6. Click Input language hot keys.
  7. Then select Press the SHIFT key to turn off Caps lock. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
  8. If it was selected to Press the SHIFT key to turn off the Caps lock, you can switch it to Press the CAPS Lock key to turn off the Caps lock. Then save the changes.
  9. Then restart your computer, and press the SHIFT key (or the CAPS LOCK key) to turn off the Caps lock and see if it works.

Don't forget to restart, the restart process is fundamental for this to work.

The Key is an On/Off key. Just press it again. The poster turned it off by rebooting. If it doesn't work the keyboard might have problems or you changed KB settings. Try an external KB to test. Search the web for more solutions.

Are you using a wireless keyboard ? I think the Cap Lock Light is Off to save battery power. There is a Cap Lock Application to download from Dell website. I am using the KM632 Wireless Keyboard.

Hi, I bought a new XPS 13 9305 laptop a couple of months ago, and right from the start it has had this problem. Switching off and rebooting makes the caps light go out, but after a short time after restarting it comes back on again and will not switch off. The caps button still works fine and toggles on/off as normal. What do I do to fix this?

I have rebooted three times and the caps lock light is still on. It turned on suddenly and remains that way till now.

I had this problem on an Inspiron 14 5410. It also had several other problems, so they swapped it out. A week after getting the new one the same thing started happening again. Needless to say, support has been terrible. Multiple times i have given two hr. windows of my availability to be called only to not be contacted. From what i can read this is a well know problem that has been made aware to Dell that they have not corrected. I finally emailed the board of Directors, The CEO and have asked for a response from upper management to get something solved and compensation. As this whole experience has not been pleasant and they have wasted a lot of my time jumping through hoops to diagnose the problems and having me set two hrs. aside at a go only not to be contacted by anyone. I am sorry but this is not how a multibillion company should run. It's like they just want to take our money and run and not support of fix anything.
