CMOS Battery

I have an issue when booting my laptop Inspiron 15 7501, the error time and date not set and configuration problem.

Apparently, I had this issue when I removed a bloated lithium battery from my laptop without replacing a new battery. So currently, I run this laptop using a charger.

My question: Is it possible to run a diagnostic test to check my CMOS battery condition?

I can't update my BIOS because my laptop doesn't have battery plug in.

Is this normal to have this issue? my laptop just turned 3 years old.

I don't have this issue with my older Inspiron laptop even used it for more than 10 years.

You can run diagnostics test, just skip the warning message about the main battery not detected.  However, a test is a test.  It does not fix anything.  You still have to replace both battery to keep it functions as a mobile device.

@Chino de Oro How to run a diagnostic test to test CMOS battery? I run this at the Dell support but there's no report about battery.

Most system will show error message at boot, or flash LED codes to alert users.  But, the most accurate symptom is losing date and time.  It's an indication of CMOS battery failing to provide power.

Commonly, users would use a voltmeter to check battery voltage.  Without running any test, I can tell you that your system will need a new CMOS battery along with a primary battery.  The moment you removed the main battery, the CMOS battery has been running as backup power and is depleting itself.
