computer noise like an old hard drive read/write

Question

I've purchase a new Dell G15 5510 and it's making a noise that resembles an old hard drive when it's performing read or write operation. By the Windows performance graph I was unable to tell whether the noise is tied to any specific hardware event. I've also noticed that the noise stops when I launch Task Manager but soon it resumes after the program is opened.

Does the system have a spinning hard drive?  If so, it's that. If not, the only other moving part in the system is the fan.

No, there is an ssd, and I don't think it is the fan, the fan doesn't run when I hear the sound. it is like the sounds of an old phone modem. And mine isn't related to read or write. When I copy files my G15 is silent.
It is continuously happens if the notebook is plugged to the battery.

keiichi_7, All 'noise'  recordings must be video + audio with the recording device a MINIMUM of 3ft from the PC or monitor. Can you provide the above information?

The noise is easily mistaken as white noise in a video equipment that I have but its really annoying personally. I just wanted to know what chip component in a G15 could be doing this kind of noise so I could look for ways to diminish it.

I would suggest you to follow the steps below to run the test on Hard drive on the system.

1. Open the link http://dell.to/14YjKb2

2. Select ‘Hardware’ under ‘Choose a Diagnostic Type’.

3. Select ‘Hard drive’ and ‘Hard drive stress’.

4. Click on ‘Run Diagnostics’ button.

5. Let me know if the results.

I have this on my XPS 15 9520.Found that if I disable 'Peak Shift' in Dell Power Manager it disappears.At least it have been silent for an hour now since I removed 'Peak Shift'It will also stop if you remove the charger and run on battery.Hope it helps some one.

I first noticed a noise as described by @massuda back in 2022. It took me two years to realize that the noise comes from the charger. My charger is a model: LA90PM111; it came with my Inspiron 15 7000 2-in-1. It is funny how the noise resembles my old Windows 95 computer back in the mid 90's.

Can confirm. I have a 5511 i7. The sound is just like a spinning hard disk. I think it's coming from the speakers.
