Dell G16 RAM Upgrade
Hi all. I am trying to upgrade my RAM and have hit a few snags. My specs are below as well as what is recommended and what I have tried so far.
System Specs:
Dell G16 7620
Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H (20 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
Display Memory: 14043 MB
Then, according to CPU-Z:
Type: DDR5 / Size: 16GB
Slot 1 and 2 both say:
DDR 5 / Module Size: 8GB
Max Bandwidth: DDR5-4800 (2400MHz)
When I go to the Crucial website, it recommends this RAM:
Crucial 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR5-5600 SODIMM
Can anyone tell me if this is compatible? I see DDR5-4800 listed above, does 5600 not work? I am just trying to get to 32GB. I already tried Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 SODIMM 16GB (2x16GB) DDR5 4800MHz, and it wouldn’t boot afterwards so I put the original RAM back in. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

On the Crucial site here it also lists 4800 RAM as compatible. If you install 5600 RAM it will run at 4800. I would suggest Crucial RAM as it is the most compatible with Dell systems and if it does not work it is returnable. In all likelihood the Corsair RAM is not compatible.

why will 5600 not run on the dell gaming 7620?
sorry for the ignorant question but i’ve literally done the same as the original post and i’m currently holding the 2x16gb 5600 ram from crucial because it said it was compatible & i already ordered it. will it be slower or worse for my system to use this? thank you.

did any crucial ram work for you, 4800 or 5600?
i had ordered the 2x16gb 5600 ram for the same laptop and currently have it. i wish i came across this forum before ordering or realized the max bandwidth

The Crucial 5600 should run without a problem, it will just run at 4800. The specs are listed here and note that it does specify 4800 which does not mean you cannot install compatible Crucial RAM it just means it will run at 4800.
