Dell G7 7588 SSD Upgrade Interface

Hello all!

I am using a Dell G7 7588 and recently I need to expand my laptop's storage capacity.

I intend to upgrade it to a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB PCIe 4.0 (7000 Mbps). But, honestly, I am kinda frightened of facing some issues after the purchase. Happens that, according to the Dell G7 Specifications, the M.2 2280 SSD does accept an interface of PCIe 3x4 NVME, Up to 32Gbps.

So I wonder, although the PCIe interface is not the same, will it work? and maybe, will the speed of 7000 Mbps be reduced and/or limited?

Thank you, everybody.

PCIe 4 drives like the Samsung 980 are backward compatible with older systems supporting PCIe 3 drives -- although your system cannot run the 980 at its rated speed, it will work.

You can also save money with a 970 drive -- which the system will run at full speed.
