Dell G7 7790 hardware multiplexer

Question

Not sure if this would go in XPS or Inspiron but I figured I'd post here since the information seems to be difficult to come by. I have a G7 7790: i5 8300H, 16GB RAM, RTX 2060.

Connecting external displays to the laptop can yield varying results depending on the design. I have a 1440p 144hz freesync monitor, I was looking to use freesync, but found that the HDMI port on the laptop passes through the iGPU -- it allowed for 1440p 144hz, or 1440p 100hz (I havent figured out why sometimes it only allows 100hz), but no freesync/gsync because of the iGPU passthrough. This also introduces a bit more latency as the path to travel is longer.

I got a Mini-DP to DP cable and nVidia's drivers report it's a direct connection. 1440p 144hz, HDR, and yes, freesync all work now.

I'm unsure if the Thunderbolt 3 port has a direct connection yet, looking to get a dock, but hoping it works out.

This is more informational than support related. Gamers may find it important to know if the G7 7790 has a multiplexer as routing video output through the iGPU adds latency and prevents use of G-sync or freesync. The HDMI port is routed through the iGPU, as is the built in screen, but the DisplayPort output is direct to the GPU
