Dell Inspiron 15 (5578) plastic power button broken

Good day
I am wondering if anyone knows what the part is and how to get a replacement for the side power button on the 2-in-1 5578. The plastic / nylon for the button appears to have been stretched so it is 1/2 stuck inside the laptop.
I can find replacements for the power button circuit board but no information on the actual plastic button.

Any help / suggestions are appreciated.

It looks like what's broken is the retainer just above the power button itself, which in turn appears to be part of the palmrest assembly (compare picture below).  That's likely what you'll need to replace.

Before buying anything, take the system apart and see what's broken.  The button appears to be just a plastic trim piece over the actual power button.  If it's the switch assembly that's broken, replace it.

If the actual trim piece is what's broken, note that it's unlikely to be available separately short of buying a complete assembly.

Thank you for the quick reply. It is not broken off but 1/2 the switch is stuck depressed in the side of the machine.
Searching for power switch seems to only find me the power switch board.

Thank you.

Thank you very much. So if that button goes then whole assembly needs to be replaced? Ouch. I am glad they changed the design of that power button in future models. I have three 2-in-1s with this same design.
Thank you again.

Inelegant, inexpensive, low tech, short term solution:  Remove the broken power button including the it's attachment to the internal assembly, ,which is likely broken. The power button is meant to depress a tiny white button on the power/audio control circuit board. Once the machine is reassembled,  insert a small mechanical device to carefully, manually depress the small white button visible where the power button used to be.  This will power it on.The end of a USB C will work.  The small rectangular power/audio control circuit board can be replaced for under $10, online, should it break.  It easily plugs in.

Obviously not a good long term solution but if you want to get the machine powered on while assembled,  this will do.

Thank you very much for your thoughts on the issue! I did manage to find an OEM assembly on eBay for about $10 and it is working great to this day!  (I ordered DELL INSPIRON 17 7773 series 85GTT 085GTT Power switch button board for anyone else that may have a similar issue)

If you search eBay for part number 85GTT there seem to be a few options as of this reply.

@bobertbeen

I am not looking for the circuit. I am just looking for a plastic mechanism that used for the power switch

I used a sliver of plastic and a hot glue gun to reshape the broken part of the plastic button and mechanism. I wasn't able to find that part without having to buy the whole cover. That laptop and fix is still working just fine over 4 years later
